Thank you for your interest in submitting a poster abstract for the 18th International Society for Hepatic Encephalopathy and Nitrogen Metabolism Meeting (ISHEN 2019) being held September 12-15, 2019 at the Williamsburg Lodge, Williamsburg, Virginia, USA. Authors must register for the conference in order to present their posters. Notifications regarding acceptance of submitted abstracts will be emailed in June 2019. Accepted abstracts are scheduled to be published online in a supplement to the American Journal of Gastroenterology.

We invite researchers and clinicians at all levels to submit abstracts on current and emerging basic, clinical, and translational hepatic encephalopathy research.

What to Submit

Please submit a structured abstract with background (with objectives), methods, results, conclusion, and references. There is a 400 word limit. Scientific abstracts report the results of original research and must contain data (either quantitative or qualitative) and include research findings. Tables are not permitted in abstract submissions. Lecture abstracts may be submitted without the above structure.

Review and Judging Process

Abstracts will be reviewed by the Selection Committee and evaluated based on:

1) Quality and importance of scientific question

2) Scientific content: design and methodology

Junior Investigator

Junior investigators are anyone under 35 years of age at the time of abstract submission, currently in a training program (undergraduate, graduate, residency, clinical fellowship, postdoctoral fellowship), and does not have an independent research program. Individuals in faculty positions are ineligible to apply.

The top twenty Junior Investigator oral presentation and poster abstract submissions will be awarded complimentary registration and a stipend of $1,000 USD.

Remaining Junior Investigator submissions will receive a reduced registration fee.
